San Francisco artist Thea Schrack is a photographer with a
magical quality to her work. Fascinated with landscapes, she
produces romantic, mysterious imagery and aspires to capture
the essence of each subject, bringing it into a new existence.
Schrack's work is an exciting blend of her original color photography,
printed with archival pigment inks, and layered with beeswax,
resin, and pigment for color that is applied and fused in multiple,
hot layers.
"I write with my camera,
paint the words, photograph the story and translate this mystery
in new ever-changing ways," says Schrack. "This recent series
leaves the boundaries wide open, blurred and expanded, letting
the mediums meet and mingle. When I paint on my photograph it's
as if the cameras shutter were allowed to be left open a little
longer, a gift, a lingering in that lost moment I can return
to. My intent is creating a beauty, an essence, that makes an
artist of the viewer."
The artist has
years of experience as a professional freelance photographer
whose work can be found in many distinguished collections. Her
photography has been published in, or collected by, the likes
of Harper Collins, Atlantic Monthly, Chronicle Books, Sony Music,
Windham Hill Records, San Francisco Examiner, Darkroom Photography
magazine, Appellation magazine, Stanford Today, Children's Hospital,
California Pacific Medical Center, Warner Brothers, Pacific
Bell, PeopleSoft and IBM. Schrack earned a Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute.
